What do I need to become a licensed advocate (lawyer) in Cyprus?

Registration in the Register of Advocates is handled by the Supreme Court, the annual practicing licence by the Bar Council of the Cyprus Bar Association, and the initial approval certificate by the Legal Council. Requirements include being at least 21 years old, of good character, an EU citizen or the spouse or child of an EU citizen, holding a law degree from a recognized university, completing a training period of not less than twelve months at an advocate's office or the Attorney General's Office, and passing an examination satisfying the Legal Council. Fees include 100.00 euros for the Register of Advocates, practicing fees of 68 euros (0 to 10 years) or 171 euros (10+ years), Advocates Pension Fund registration of 50.00 euros with annual renewal of 480.00 euros, and a Cyprus Bar Association register subscription of 100 euros annually. The route is to submit the Letter of Approval from the Legal Council to the Supreme Court Chief Registrar, then apply to the Bar Council for the annual practicing licence with a Certificate of Enrolment, professional indemnity insurance, and pension fund registration. Processing timelines are not stated on the page.
